Milford Brownfield to be Auctioned

| MILFORD - The long-abandoned OwensIllinois property on Old Gate Lane will be auctioned February 7. The sale could net the city of Milford more than $150,000 in back taxes and pave the way for redevelopment of the former Milford Jai Alai site next door. The present owner of the 15.39-acre parcel, Milford Connecticut Associates, owes the city $156,488 in back taxes, city officials said. Auctioning the land could impact plans by owners of the 24-acre former fronton site, which is targeted for retail development. The fronton closed in December 2001. Whoever wins the auction would likely explore merging the two parcels for a major retail development. Currently, retail development at the site would be limited to 250,000 square feet, but combining the two parcels could accommodate a 400,000-square-foot commercial development, officials said.
