WEST HAVEN - Painting billboards by hand is a dying art. In the spirit of the holiday season, Barrett Outdoor Communications of West Haven has donated a billboard on I-95 to "Swim Across the Sound's" automobile raffle. The billboard, designed by Barrett Outdoor Communications, is being painted by New Haven muralist Russell Rainbolt. The billboard, 48 feet wide by 14 feet high, was to be unveiled December 22. Earlier this month, William B. Meyer of Stratford and Mario D'Addario Buick Pontiac GMC Nissan of Shelton donated a 2004 Pontiac Grand Am to St. Vincent's Medical Center Foundation's "Swim Across the Sound" program and the D'Addario Hypertension programs. It is hoped that the car raffle will raise $55,000 to support the cancer and hypertension programs that St. Vincent's Medical Center Foundation administers to aid children and adults in southern Connecticut. The random drawing for the winner will take place February 11 at the "Swim Across the Sound" breakfast at the Holiday Inn in Bridgeport.
