NEW HAVEN - "New Haven - Your Home For The Holidays" was the theme of downtown merchants during the holiday shopping season, intended to evoke a place where old-fashioned, hometown traditions blend with a contemporary, cosmopolitan flair. In the second annual Holiday Downtown Storefront Decoration contest, Bottega Giuliana, a popular clothing and shoe store on Chapel Street, took home top honors with 285 votes by shoppers. In addition to the popular vote, a panel of "celebrity" judges selected winners from three categories: Best Traditional Design, Best Contemporary Design and Most Creative Display. The jury selected the gift store Walker Loden, Zinc Restaurant and Wave Gallery as the respective winners in those categories.
"The decorations contribute to the holiday spirit, welcoming shoppers and providing another wonderful New Haven experience for everyone," said Mayor John DeStefano Jr. The Holiday Downtown Storefront Decoration contest was a joint project of the Town Green Special Services District, Market New Haven and WVIT-TV.
