The Connecticut Clean Energy Fund (CCEF) has announced plans to continue supporting Solar Photovoltaics (PV) and issue a new request for proposals (RFP) for projects involving installation and use of PV technology in commercial, industrial and institutional applications. The program will fund projects on a rolling basis over the next three years. Photovoltaic technologies convert sunlight into clean, usable energy.
"We are pleased to have the opportunity to help fund projects that will show how PV technology can power buildings effectively and economically, while improving the environment by reducing consumption of energy from the grid," explained Charlie Moret, CCEF's managing director for investments. "Funding projects continually over three years will provide the ongoing market stimulation needed to encourage the development and commercialization of this exciting technology."
CCEF will seek projects that demonstrate PV's potential as a viable distributed-generation resource in Connecticut. The fund is particularly interested in innovative, replicable PV systems that, among other things:
o Help build the solar PV industry in the state; o Are highly visible; o Provide high-value or premium-power attributes; o Relieve electrical load congestion in energy-constrained areas of Connecticut such as Fairfield County; o Reduce barriers to installation; and/or o Promote environmental benefits.
The complete RFP was to be available in late December. It is obtainable from CCEF's Web site, www.ctcleanenergy.com, or by sending a written request to Connecticut Clean Energy Fund, 999 West Street, Rocky Hill, CT 06067.
Administered by Connecticut Innovations Inc., the Connecticut Clean Energy Fund invests in enterprises and initiatives that promote and develop sustainable markets for energy from renewables and fuel cells that will benefit the state's electric ratepayers.
