WALLINGFORD - Two staff members from the Masonic Healthcare Center were presenters at the recent 56th annual scientific meeting of the Gerontological Society of America in San Diego, Calif. The topic "Assessing & Applying Family Ethics," was presented by Jack Paul Gesino, DSW, of Hamden, associate professor of social work at Southern Connecticut State University and director of late-life families at Masonicare's Trilogy Psychiatric Services, and Marjorie Haas, LCSW, of Cheshire, social worker with Masonic's Geriatric Assessment Program.
Gesino and Haas presented the results of a survey of 275 family caregivers. It explored the extent to which the decisions caregivers made for impaired elder family members were guided by family ethics learned from early development and childhood. Healthcare professionals were offered techniques to assist family members in making important decisions and ways to incorporate such principles into their own care plans.
Masonic Healthcare Center is an affiliate of Wallingford-based Masonicare, the state's largest provider of senior-focused health-care services and retirement living communities.
