WEST HAVEN - The state's Department of Labor (DOL) has certified about 75 employees of Bayer Pharmaceuticals in West Haven as eligible to apply for Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) benefits. Labor Commissioner Shaun B. Cashman said his department was sending TAA eligibility notices to all affected Bayer employees, including information on how to apply for benefits. He notes that Bayer employees who are or will be partially or completely separated from employment between October 1, 2002 and October 24, 2005 are eligible to apply for federal benefits. These include training, job search and relocation allowances for qualified workers seeking jobs or (under certain conditions) moving out of state for new employment. Also, health coverage tax credits and weekly cash benefits may be paid to eligible employees enrolled in approved training. More info is available on the DOL Web site, www.ctdol.state.ct.us.
