A project of the 2004 class of Leadership Greater New Haven seeks to augment summer employment opportunities for young people aged 14 through 21 throughout the region. In collaboration with the Regional Workforce Development Board, Get SET! (Summer Employment for Teens), as the project is known, has designed a marketing plan and ad campaign launched earlier this month to build business support for the jobs program. Leadership Greater New Haven is a ten-month training program that seeks to engage rising area business leaders with the community at large, in part through involvement with meaningful projects. The current LGNH class chose the summer jobs initiative as its special community project. To raise awareness - and money - for the program, Get SET! Will stage a comedy night, Stand Up for Teens!, on March 11 at the Playwright Pub on Temple Street in New Haven. The event, featuring New York comedians Stu Trivax and Danielle Broussard, will feature food and a raffle. Corporate sponsors are sought for the benefit, a the $2,500 and $1,000 levels. The latter is the sum that covers the costs of salary and benefits for each summer youth worker. Contributions are tax-deductible to the extent permitted by law. Tickets to the March 11 event are $25 ($20 of which is tax-deductible).
