MIDDLETOWN - Donald Bidwell Sr., president of Bidwell Industrial Group, Inc., has purchased the former Madrigal Building on South Main Street in Middletown. The 60,000-square-foot building once housed Madrigal Audio Laboratories, which went out of business last August 30. Bidwell bought the building for $2.5 million and has begun renovations, including the installation of a new roof, that he estimates will cost several hundreds of thousands of dollars. Plans are to have the building renovated and occupied within the next six months.
"The building is now locally owned and that is really good news," says Middlesex County Chamber of Commerce President Larry McHugh. "Worst-case scenario is you have an absentee landlord but in this case we have someone who gets the job done." Bidwell says he is optimistic about the manufacturers he has contacted about the building home: "We will be bringing more jobs into Middlesex and into Middletown," said Bidwell. "This won't be a warehouse. It has to be job-intensive."
