| In December, Connecticut hospital emergency departments (EDs) treated the most patients and reported the highest month-to-month increase in volume in a decade. According to ChimeData's monthly Patient Census Report (PCR), ED visits in the last month of 2003 jumped 18 percent over the previous month. According to the group, a variety of factors reported by hospitals are responsible, such as an increasing number of respiratory illnesses, including influenza. The entire report is available at www.cthosp.org.
