| MERIDEN - While the national nursing shortage may be old news, Connecticut may be experiencing a modest upturn in those interested in entering nursing, including high school graduates and those seeking to change careers. So says the Nursing Career Center of Connecticut, which promotes nursing careers. "In the New Haven and Bridgeport area high-school graduates are fired up about getting into nursing, and even in the Hartford area social workers, engineers and other professionals are exploring and pursuing the nursing profession," says Teresa Twomey, RN, the NCCC's executive director. In its third year, Twomey's group was formed to attract elementary through secondary-level students into nursing, as well as those already in health care and related fields.
