Perry Miller, M.D., a professor of anesthesiology and director of medical informatics at the Yale School of Medicine, has received a $1.3 million grant as part of a new National Institute of Health (NIH) initiative to support planning for Centers of Excellence in Biomedical Computing at several universities nationwide.
NIH has recognized the critical shortage of scientists trained in the interdisciplinary areas of biomedical computing. The new centers will help to train new scientists. Miller said NIH decided to support such centers because computing and informatics are becoming a critical part of all areas of clinical medicine and modern biology.
