NEW HAVEN - Connecticut-based independent filmmakers have joined forces to launch Connecticut Independent Filmmakers, whose collective goal is to help the industry grow statewide.
We represent an industry that has the potential to bring millions of dollars to the state, explains Carla Stockton, co-principal of the North Haven-based Bagel Fish Productions. Filmmakers, she says, need to become more business-savvy. By collaborating, we have the opportunity to create a real voice that will help Connecticut filming to thrive.
Independent films typically generate $25,000 to $50,000 in daily spending where filming, while a major production brings as much as $100,000 a day through payment to crew, electricity and services such as accommodations, food, transportation, lumber, etc.
If you have a crew of 100 people who are here for two weeks, all these people are spending money in our state, says Guy Ortoleva, managing director of the Connecticut Film Office. By developing crew teams and support services that serve independent films, we improve the state's ability to attract higher-end commercials, episodic and feature films.
