SBA: Fleet Finishes First

For the second consecutive year, FleetBoston Financial was the No. 1 U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) lender in both the Northeast and the nation. For the SBA fiscal year ended September 30, the Fleet Small-Business Services group approved 2,889 loans within a seven-state region encompassing New England (minus Vermont) plus New York and New Jersey. The SBA ranks lenders by number of loans, or units, written during the measurement period.
Fleet's SBA loans account for about 18 percent of its small-business loan portfolio, and approximately 14 percent of the loan dollars it lends small businesses.
