Lynn Fredricksen joins the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce as director of communications. She will be responsible for publicizing chamber events, disseminating information to members and serving as liaison to the media. Fredricksen previously served as a staff reporter for the New Haven Register, was a budget analyst for AT&T and customer service representative for a liquor distributor. Robert L. LaMonaca has also joined the chamber as business development executive. He is responsible for servicing existing chamber members and introducing chamber services to potential new members. Previousl, LaMonaca was co-owner and operator of the Windsor Shoppe in North Haven and served as a regional sales manager in Connecticut and Rhode Island for Baxter-Travenol Corp.
Florencio López-de-Silanes, a scholar of international corporate finance, financial markets, corporate governance, legal reform, privatization and deregulation, has been named professor of finance and economics at the Yale School of Management. He will also serve as director of the International Institute for Corporate Governance, which SOM plans to establish within its International Center for Finance. López-de-Silanes is a founding member of the Blue Ribbon Panel on Corporate Governance in Russia and the committee on Best Corporate Practices in Mexico. He has helped international companies improve their corporate governance practices and has acted as an advisor to stock market commissions in several countries. He has been advisor to numerous governments on issues such as financial market regulation, corporate and bankruptcy law reform, industrial policy and privatization. He has a master's and Ph.D. in economics from Harvard University and previously was a professor at Harvard.
J. Michael Theodore has been named president of the Connecticut Technology Council (CTC), replacing Laura Kent. He will be responsible for managing all aspects of the organization and will work closely with CTC directors to stimulate and facilitate the growth and awareness of technology-based businesses in Connecticut. Theodore has more than 20 years of senior management experience and holds degrees from Harvard, Stanford and Princeton universities. Most recently he was chief operating officer of the New York Media Association. He also served as New York general manager at Kozmo.com, an Internet0based one-hour delivery service.
Connecticut United for Research Excellence (CURE) has announced the election of co-chairs, directors and executive committee members. Elected co-chairs were: Peter Mueller, senior vice president, research and development, Boehringer-Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals; and William G. Rice, president and chief executive office of Achillion Pharmaceuticals Inc. Elected to the board were: Louis Matis, president of Cellular Genomics; Torben Christensen, chief executive officer of Molecular Staging; and Daniel McIntyre, senior vice president of public policy, Pharmacia Corp. Elected to the executive committee was Kevin Rakin, president of Genaissance Pharmaceuticals.
James Cramond has joined Diversified Technology Consultants as manager of electrical engineering. With 21 years of experience in utility, commercial and industrial projects, Cramond has engineered power plant systems, constructed liquid gas plants and developed economical methods for the manufacturing and engineering of future control system projects. Ed Ruchin also joins Diversified Technology as survey manager. He has 27 years of experience in land survey projects. Peter Wolfe joins DTC as program executive for the firm's federal programs division. He has 17 years of experience managing technical and professional services programs for governmental, industrial and private clients, including more than 15 years supporting fission-critical activities with the Department of Defense. The North Haven office has also added the following personnel: Stephen Benben, civil engineer; Sandra Cassilly, CAD drafter; Gabriel Gonzalez, survey technician; Rich Martensen, project manger; Jane Raleigh, graphics design coordinator; Joanne Schonfeld, landscape architect; and Melissa Welch, administrative support.
Diane C. Cleary has been hired as quality assurance coordinator for Marrakech Inc.. Also, Denise Stevenson has been promoted to facility coordinator. She is responsible for ensuring that homes operated by Marrakech are safe and in compliance with state Department of Mental Retardation (DMR) regulations and that all DMR and Marrakech policies and procedures are complied with.
Steve Canada of Cheshire, a licensed optician and contact-lens specialist, has joined the practice of David McCullough, M.D., a board-certified ophthalmologist. The practice is located at 33 King Street in Stratford.
Charles C. Schreier has been named stock control leader/North America for Cytec Industries's Global Supply Chain Division. He will be responsible for the North American stock-control team and third-party stocking locations. Schreier, who will work at the company's Wallingford facility, joined the company in 1987 as shipping supervisor. Previously he worked as a warehouse manager of Wallace International Silversmiths.
Michael Sokakian, managing member of Solakian, Caiafa & Co. CPAs LLC, has been appointed chairman of the Standards Task Force for the American Institute of CPAs Peer Review Board, which administers the peer-review process nationally. Solakian is a past chairman of the Connecticut Society of CPAs Peer Review Board.
Stephanie Caruso has been appointed academic technology specialist in media services at Quinnipiac University. She will assist faculty, staff and students in designing PowerPoint presentations and performing computer video editing. A 2000 QU graduate in mass communications, Caruso previously worked as a marketing manager at Cornerstone in New York. She also worked for Sony Music Distribution in Boston as a field-marketing representative. Krystal Livingston has joined the Undergraduate Admissions Office at Quinnipiac as an admissions counselor. She will recruit from the state of New York and New York City. Livingston graduated from the University of New Haven in May with a bachelor's degree in forensic science.
Patricia O. Phalon has been named vice president of lending and deposits at Webster Financial Advisors, which offers investment, credit and fiduciary services for high-net-worth clients. Phalon was previously vice president of commercial lending at People's Bank. She has also held positions at Chase Manhattan Bank, General Electric Capital Corp. and the former Bank of Boston.
Ken Roper joins Traub & Co. as property management director. Roper, who has 15 years of experience in commercial property management, will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the company's new property management division. He previously worked for Bic Corp., where he created technology-based training initiatives. Roper also co-owned MJL Limited in Ridgefield, managing professional buildings.
