Health care quality nationwide and in Connecticut is on the rise, says the latest National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) annual scorecard of HMOs. At the same time, however, Connecticut businesses are feeling pain over the unrelenting increases in the cost of providing employee health benefits. According to the NCQA study, customer satisfaction is also rising. One way health care is improving is that preventive services are becoming more common.
Connecticut plans with good scores included North Haven-based Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Connecticut, which was named Best in Class in such categories as prenatal care and childhood immunizations. Shelton-based Health Net of Connecticut also received higher-than-average scores: Health Net's overall NCQA rating rose eight percent in 2000 to 70.96. The national average was 59.30.
