Transcentive, a provider of software and services for global equity management, has announced the appointment of Gordon O. Rapkin as executive vice president and chief marketing officer. Rapkin, who has more than 20 years of software management experience, most recently served as executive vice president of B2B Markets for Broadbase Software, now Kana Communications. He also previously served as CEO of Decisionism and vice president of Enterprise Business Group. Rapkin holds a degree in biochemistry from Syracuse University and an MBA and law degree from Emory University.
The University of New Haven has named John D. Hatfield executive vice president and provost. Hatfield comes to the senior management position from the University of Baltimore, where he served as dean of the business school. He is the first person in the university's 81-year history to be named executive vice president as well as the traditional position of provost. Hatfield will oversee day-to-day management of administrative affairs at UNH.
Edward P. Bass has been named a Successor Fellow of the Yale Corporation, the university's governing board. Bass is a 1967 graduate of Yale College and also studied at the graduate level of the Yale School of Architecture. He is chairman and CEO of Fine Line Inc., a diversified venture and investment capital company. The Fort Worth, Tex. resident is co-chair of the Leadership Council of Yale's School of Forestry & Environmental Studies and was founding chair of the External Advisory Board of the Yale Institute for Biospheric Studies.
Deborah Laviero has joined Centerprise Advisors as marketing manager of client development. Previously Laviero served as assistant director of the University of Hartford's Construction Institute. She also served as an employment representative for the Greater Bristol Chamber of Commerce. Alan A. Schachter has also joined Centerprise as managing director of litigation support and valuation services practice. In addition he will also direct the firm's health-care practice. Centerprise Advisors, formerly Simione, Scilla Larrow & Dowling Advisors, was formed as a result of a recent merger of seven regional professional service firms located throughout the U.S.
The Meriden Business & Learning Center (MBLC) has named Rochelle Kingsley executive director. Kingsley has worked at the MBLC since its inception in January 1998 and as interim director since March of this year. She holds a bachelor's degree in education from the University of Connecticut and served on the board of directors of the Women Families Center.
Kristen Cusato has joined Darren Krammer as co-anchor of from 5 to 7 a.m. on WTNH-TV. Most recently she served as weekend anchor at 6 and 11 p.m. and for sister station WCTX-TV's 10 O'Clock News program in addition to serving as a reporter for WTNH. Cusato joined WTNH in 1997.
Kim Marie Fenlon of Hamden has joined H. Pearce Co., Realtors' regional office as a residential sales associate. Previously employed by two area realty firms, Fenlon also serves the child advocacy program within the state judicial system.
Leanne Blauvelt has joined Calcagni Associates Real Estate's Cheshire office as a residential sales agent. Previously she worked as a graphic designer and studied marketing at Quinnpiac University.
Tamara Simpson has been named account coordinator for Mason & Madison Public Relations in New Haven. Since joining the firm in 1998, she has worked in capacities including administration, new business and event planning. Simpson, who holds a B.A. in communications from the University of Connecticut, previously worked for the Wellness Community, a non-profit cancer organization outside Boston.
Quinnipiac University has named Melanie Farrell assistant controller. Formerly assistant vice president of finance and management information systems at United Way of the Capital Area in Hartford, she will oversee the bursar's office and perform financial analysis. Farrell received her bachelor's degree in accounting from Westfield (Mass.) State College and a master's degree in business administration from Western New England College. Also at QU, Gordon Hurlbert has been named director of clinical athletic training. He will coordinate activities at the athletic training facility and will coordinate education internship opportunities for students in the Athletic Training/Sports Medicine Program in the School of Health Services. Hurlbert, who has worked with a number of professional sports teams, served as an athletic trainer in the Olympic village at the 1996 Summer Olympic Games in Atlanta.
People's Bank has named Doreen C. Moffat of Stratford vice president of workforce planning and development. Moffat will be responsible for managing both the operational and strategic aspects of staffing, workforce planning and college relations. She previously served as manager of staffing and recruiting, in which she oversaw a company-wide staffing and recruiting initiative. Moffat joined People's in 1986 as a management trainee. She holds bachelor's degrees in secondary education and English from the State University of New York at Oswego.
Discovery Training Services of Wallingford has hired Ann Kranyak as a software instructor. Kranyak formerly worked with the SNET IT training group, specializing in the transition to Microsoft office products. Discovery has also hired Marcy Hotchkiss to work on marketing and client services. She previously served as a SNET corporate advertising and marketing manager.
Julie Brander of Woodbridge has joined The Proto Group LLC as a commercial sales associate. She has over 20 years of experience in manufacturing, retail and non-profit organizations. Brander, who is chairman of the Greater New Haven Chapter of Service Corps of Retired Executive, currently teaches courses in business planning and practice.
Thelma Fritzell has joined H. Pearce Company Realtors' New Haven office as a residential sales associate. She comes to H. Pearce after serving more than 25 years in the travel industry. The North Haven resident has also held other management positions in New Haven County.
Heather Elliott has joined O,R&L Facility Management as regional administrative coordinator. She will work directly with the vice president of operations providing comprehensive management of commissioning, move management and inventory and bar coding projects for the company's educational division. Elliott has completed a comprehensive move management project with Yale University for O,R&L and is currently working on recently constructed magnet schools.
