Dianon Says Attack Slows Q3 Sales

STRATFORD - Dianon Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: DIAN), which provides testing services to doctors who treat cancer patients, warned on September 17 that its sales were hurt by the hijacker attacks on New York and the Pentagon. The company estimated that its sales and earnings per share will be hurt in the range of $1.2 million to $1.5 million and four to six cents, respectively, in the third quarter.
Wall Street analysts expected the company to earn 30 cents a share in the third quarter, according to Thomson Financial/First Call. “As a result of the natural disruption created for many patients scheduled for doctors visits nationwide, particularly in New York and Washington, D.C., we experienced lower testing volume last week than forecasted,” Dianon said in a statement. The company said it expected the impact to be nonrecurring since patients can typically delay diagnostic procedures, but not forego those procedures long-term.
