Neurogen Names Koster CEO

BRANFORD - Neurogen Corp. (NASDAQ: NRGN), a drug discovery and development companies, on September 10 named William H. Koster to succeed Harry H. Penner Jr. as chief executive, effective immediately. Koster has more than 30 years experience developing and commercializing drugs with Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. (NYSE: BMY) and E.R. Squibb & Sons Inc., which merged with Bristol-Myers in 1989. Penner previously said he would retire when his successor was named.
Most recently Koster was Bristol-Myers' senior vice president for science and technology strategy and acquisition heading up the company's external science and technology, scientific intelligence, intellectual property strategy and science policy functions.
Koster, who received a Ph.D in organic chemistry from Tufts University and a bachelor of arts degree in chemistry from Colby College, previously served as senior vice president for drug discovery for Bristol-Myers with worldwide responsibility for the discovery and advancement of the company's internal pipeline of drug candidates entering development. He more than doubled the output of drug discovery, Neurogen said.
