NEW HAVEN - The Community Economic Development Fund (CEDF), a statewide economic-development organization, has awarded grants to three New Haven organizations, permitting them to hire consultants to carry out projects in small business, commercial districts and the arts.
The Greater New Haven Business & Professional Organization, a predominantly African-American business group that provides technical assistance and support, was awarded $12,000 to evaluate the potential for starting a new business venture in the Dixwell neighborhood. The Whalley Avenue Special Services District, the managing body for Whalley merchants and property owners, received $14,000 to undertake a study of the retail business and commercial real-estate potential of the street.
And $5,000 was awarded to Artspace to develop information about artist clusters and the studios, buildings and neighborhoods where they are located.
Funded by ten of the state's largest banks as well as well as the Connecticut Housing Finance Authority and the state, CEDF this year has awarded more than $100,000 to community-based organizations.
