A financial services company founded by two Elis is getting into the direct banking business. HigherOne, which provides a range of personalized banking services and products for the higher education market, anticipates a September 2002 full-scale launch. Students will be able to use credit cards distributed through schools to pay for items directly at the bookstore, for example, without turning to another financial institution. Those with campus jobs or receiving compensation can receive funds directly. The plus for school administration is paperwork savings, while students will benefit from quicker processing times.
