FAIRFIELD - Downtown Fairfield has received a shot in the arm from six new retail stores occupying the site of the former Fairfield Store, which closed in 1996 after being in business for 72 years. Redesigned to accommodate the new businesses, five of the six stores, all chains, have opened on the Post Road.
Ann Taylor Loft, launched in 1996, carries mid-priced business casual and weekend wear. Borders, with approximately 350 stores, carries books, movies, tapes and also houses a café. Banana Republic carries casual clothing for young men and women as well as shoes, body care products and accessories. Chico's, a women's clothing store, opened its ninth Connecticut store in the Post Road location. Victoria's Secret carries a wide range of lingerie in addition to fragrances. Founded in 1985, the company has more than 1,000 stores in the tri-state region alone. The sixth store will be Altan Jewelers.
