WATERBURY - William J. Pape II, publisher of the Waterbury Republican American, has been named the 2001 recipient of the Malcolm Baldrige Community Award, presented by the Greater Waterbury Chamber of Commerce for contributions to economic development.
The award was established by the chamber to honor the legacy of Malcolm Baldrige, former chairman of Scovill Inc. and U.S. Secretary of Commerce in the Reagan administration. It is presented to business leaders who have made significant contributions to enhancing economic prosperity in the Waterbury region by creating employment opportunities and initiating or supporting new business development in the region.
Past recipients include Jaci Carroll of Jaci Carroll Staffing (2000), James C. Smith of Webster Bank (1999) and Daniel H. Leever of MacDermid Inc. (1998).
Pape will be honored at the annual Malcolm Baldrige Chamber Awards Evening September 13 at the Sheraton Waterbury Hotel. At the dinner the chamber also will present its Leadership Award to C. Robert Zelinger of Gager & Peterson, LLP and its Volunteer Award to Kim Demsey of Demsey Manufacturing of Watertown.
