Wallingford Feels Lucent’s Pain

WALLINGFORD - Lucent Technologies announced July 11 that it would close its Wallingford facility, eliminating some 50 jobs. The North Main Street offices, Lucent's lease on which was expiring, is a victim of the telecommunications slowdown, companies officials said. In all, Lucent employed some 650 workers in Connecticut in facilities in New Haven and North Haven as well as Wallingford. The company's presence here and elsewhere may be further reduced by a voluntary buyout offer Lucent made in June to some 10,000 employees.
