NEW HAVEN - Lt. Gov. M. Jodi Rell was on hand July 17 for the opening of Marrakech Inc.'s Employment and Training Center in New Haven. Rell cut the ribbon, toured the facility and delivered remarks commending the project.
The job training and placement center at 524-526 Whalley Ave. took three years of capital fundraising and construction to complete. Major funding came from a Connecticut Development Block Grant in the amount of $400,000; the Melville Charitable Trust, $190,000; the state's Department of Social Services and city of New Haven, $150,000 each; the state's Department of Mental Health & Addiction Services, $50,000; and the state's Department of Mental Retardation, $30,000.
Based in Woodbridge, Marrakech serves more than 600 men, women and children with mental, physical and psychiatric disabilities through a range of programs designed to meet its clients' housing, employment, training and community experience needs.
