Alan Kliger has been named chairman of the Department of Medicine at New Haven's Hospital of Saint Raphael, effective August 1. Kliger will oversee the department as well as the hospital's graduate medical education programs. He is board-certified in internal medicine and nephrology and a member of Metabolism Associates of New Haven, where he maintains a consultation practice.

SMG has named Lisa Audi general manager of Veterans Memorial Coliseum in New Haven. Audi comes to New Haven from Albany, N.Y., where since 1996 she had been director of marketing at the SMG-managed Pepsi Arena. Audi has eight years of experience in arena marketing at Pepsi Arena - including more than 175 events annually - as well as handling public relations.

Robert L. Culvar has been named vice president for finance and administration at Yale University. Culver was most recently executive vice president and chief financial officer for the Cabot Corp., responsible for financial and system activity, including treasury services, tax, management reporting, internal audit, investor relations, mergers and acquisitions and real estate. He was also senior vice president and treasurer of Northeastern University from 1990-97.

Susan Radocchio, senior vice president of Sovereign Bank in Waterbury, has been elected chairman of the Greater Waterbury Chamber of Commerce. Also elected to the chamber's executive committee were: James Mullen, immediate past chair; Selin Noujaim of the Noujaim Tool Co., first vice chair; Geraldine Regan of G.S. Regan & Associates, vice chairman for membership services; Jack Pacowta of Nishball, Carp, Niedermeier, Pacowta, treasurer; C. Robert Zellinger of Gager & Peterson, LLP, secretary; Richard O'Brien of Webster Bank, vice chairman for government affairs; Karen Pollard of Brass Mill Center, vice chair of economic development; and Bernie Lynch, president.

Theodore P. Shen has joined the Yale Corporation as alumni fellow. He retired from his position as chairman of the Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Capital Markets Group in 1999, after 15 years in that position and 31 years with DLJ. Shen is also a member of the University Council and was recently elected to the board of the Yale University Art Gallery.

Shobhna Gupta has been named senior web programmer at Quinnipiac University. Gupta will be part of a Web support group that manages the university's Web site, www.quinnipiac.edu. She was formerly a software developer for ICL-Fujitsu Systems Inc. in Middletown.

Nancy Humiston has been named community health program manager by the Visiting Nurse Association of South Central Connecticut. A registered nurse, Humiston will direct community-based VNA/SCC programs such as well-child clinics, Healthy Families and flu clinics. She was formerly chief operating officer of the Regional VNA.

Carolyn Singer has been named director of human-resources services at F.W. Serra Insurance of Shelton. Singer will be responsible for HR services including employee handbooks, pre-employment testing and screening and performance reviews. Singer has 15 years of sales, management and customer service experience in the life-insurance industry, including most recently as account executive with Jackie Matchett Personnel Services in New Haven.

Garry Brewer has been named the Frederick K. Weyerhaeuser Professor of Resource Policy and Management, jointly by the Yale School of Forestry & Environmental Studies and the Yale School of Management. Since 1998, Brewer has served as dean of the University of California/Berkeley Extension, as well as professor of environmental policy and management in Berkeley's Energy & Resources Group.

Also at the Yale School of Forestry and Environmental Studies, Chad Oliver has been named professor of forestry and environmental studies. An expert in forest stand dynamics, Oliver will join the faculty in January. He has more than 70 reviewed publications including the book, Forest Stand Dynamics.

The Yale University School of Medicine has named Joseph Schlessinger chairman of pharmacology. Most recently Schlessinger was professor, chair of pharmacology and director of the Skirball Institute of Biomolecular Medicine at New York University. He has research experience in signal transduction, which he will continue to research at Yale.

Normand Bilodeau has been promoted to chief financial officer of FlexiInternational Software Inc. in Shelton. Bilodeau has been a financial consultant for Flexi since 1999. He has worked for two decades in upper-level finance and management positions, including 14 years as chief financial officer of BGS Systems Inc.

Jessica A. Ranciato recently joined Moynahan, Ruskin, Mascolo & Minnella's Waterbury office as a litigation associate. A 2000 graduate of the Quinnipiac College School of Law, Ranciato clerked for civil rights attorney John R. Williams. She will specialize in civil-rights and insurance law as well as criminal defense work.

CRN International Inc. of Hamden has hired Jeffrey Berman as public relations/creative coordinator. Previously Berman worked for Mason & Madison Public Relations of Bethany on consumer media relations, investor relations and corporate communications.

Verizon Wireless has named Georgia Tsipolitis supervisor of store operations for stores in Old Saybrook, Waterbury and elsewhere. Tsipolitis began her career at Verizon Wireless in 1996 and has been a customer-care representative, assistant store manager and store manager.

Following a restructuring at Anthem Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Connecticut, four associates have been assigned greater marketing responsibilities. Jill Snyder, with Anthem BCBS for 22 years, becomes director of regional marketing strategy and information and point person for the Connecticut marketing team. Alex Ungerleider, with Anthem for eight years, will direct regional new venture opportunities and become point person for the New York marketing team. Sixteen-year Anthem veteran Joan Lane will serve as director of regional product development and performance. Anna Cudgma, with the company for 17 years, becomes director of regional distribution and sales process functions.

Michael Collins, general manager of Quinnipiac University-owned radio station WQUN (1220 AM), has been named president of the Connecticut Foundation for Open Government. Collins is also adjunct professor of mass communications at QU. He was with the Associated Press for 15 years. Also at WQUN, Jim Buchanan has been named weekday news reporter. He will also periodically fill in as news anchor and host of The Morning Show with Ray Andrewsen. Buchanan worked at WICC-AM in Bridgeport for 17 years, including most recently as afternoon host of The Afternoon Big Broadcast.
