NEW YORK - Pratt & Whitney Power Systems has successfully tested its microturbine for distributed generation and sold 100 units to DTE Energy Technologies.
A subsidiary of United Technologies Corp. (NYSE: UTX), P&W said its 400-kilowatt engine has no lubrication system and is the largest gas turbine built with air bearings.
Distributed generation produces power at or near the user site and reduces the need for additional high-voltage transmission lines.
DTE Energy Technologies is a subsidiary of DTE Energy Co. (NYSE: DTE), parent company of Detroit Edison and Michigan Consolidated Gas.
The microturbines will drive high-speed generators supplied by the UK-based Turbo Genset Co. Ltd. (TORONTO: TGN.TO).
