HAMDEN - Two dozen high school juniors from New Haven and Hamden sharpened their entrepreneurial skills from June 23 to 29 as part of a new program at Quinnipiac University's School of Business. Quinnipiac was awarded a $60,000 grant from the Kauffman Foundation to fund "EntrePrep," a program aimed at training inner-city youths to become business leaders. Quinnipiac received the grant from the Kansas City-based foundation, which awards grants and operates programs focused on youth development and entrepreneurial leadership. Participants in the EntrePrep program spent a week on the Quinnipiac campus. Students were selected based on an application process that included a self evaluation essay by the applicant, a school counselor's recommendation, two teacher recommendations and a parent's statement of commitment to the program. In addition, Quinnipiac considered each applicant's GPA, extracurricular activities, work experience, career goals and other areas of interest or specialization.
