HARTFORD - U.S. Sen. Christopher Dodd announced that the Connecticut Business & Industry Association (CBIA) received a $2.2 million grant to provide training in technology and manufacturing skills to more than 600 Connecticut workers. The grant will be funded based on a proposal submitted in January to the U.S. Department of Labor by the CBIA Education Foundation, according to the foundation's executive director, Lauren Weisberg Kaufman.
Industries targeted under the funding include precision manufacturing, fiber-optics, photonics, lasers and telecommunications manufacturing. Training will be provided to current employees and former workers in fields where skills are in short supply. Workers will learn new technologies and manufacturing processes, enabling them not only to do their jobs more efficiently, but also to advance to higher-skilled jobs and higher wages.
