ANSONIA - Birmingham Utilities Inc. announced May 8 that it had signed two contracts with the state's Department of Environmental Protection, (DEP), for the sale of approximately 892 acres of excess water company lands located in Ansonia and Seymour for approximately $9.8 million.
The properties include 570 acres of land known formerly as the Quillinan Reservoir and its surrounding watershed. Of the 570 acres, 472 are in Ansonia and the remaining 98 acres are in Seymour. The sales price for this parcel is $5,500,000 of which the City of Ansonia will contribute $250,000.
Said Birmingham President John S. Tomac, "This transaction continues our strategy to dispose of excess water-company land in a prudent fashion, in which the customers, shareholders and community benefit." He noted the proceeds from these sales will be reinvested into Birmingham's capital program to replace aging infrastructure.
