Jon P. Leckerling has been named partner in the law firm of Tyler Cooper & Alcorn. Leckerling, who has been practicing law in Connecticut for 23 years, focuses his practice on corporate and business planning as well as estate planning and administration. He is resident partner of the firm's East Shore office in Madison and also maintains an office in New Haven. The West Point graduate has 15 years of in-house counsel experience as executive vice president-administration and general council of Echlin Inc. and vice president and general counsel of Armtek (formerly the Armstrong Rubber Co.).
Jon Hitchcock has been promoted to vice president and station manager of WTNH-TV in New Haven. The sales department will continue to report directly to Hitchcock, as will the engineering department. Hitchcock joined WTNH in 1990 as local account executive and was later promoted to national sales manager. Before that, he was a television sales research analyst with the Blair Television Co. in New York.
David Miller has been named director of engineering for WTNH-TV and its corporate sibling, WCTX-TV. He will manage both stations' technical operations and oversee the installation and maintenance of equipment as well as the transition of WCTX to high definition TV (HDTV. Miller was previously director of engineering for WAND-TV in Decatur, Ill. He has also worked for KXAN and KNVA in Austin, Tex. and was assistant chief engineer at KBTX in Bryan, Tex.
Mary Miller has been selected to lead the International Festival of Arts & Ideas in New Haven beginning with the 2002 event. She will assume her duties in July at the conclusion of the 2001 festival, the fourth and last under the direction of Paul Collard. Miller is currently the head of the studio at the English National Opera and director of the Northlands International Festival in Scotland. Miller pursued a successful career as a concert violinist for 17 years before her appointment as director of the Northlands event. As a journalist she is also a regular contributor to the BBC, ITV and Channel 4.
Lisa Lee Creations of Woodbridge has named Domenic R. Merenda vice president of business development. Merenda returns to Lisa Lee Creations from BeOpen.com, where he was vice president of business development and sales. For the six years before that Merenda was responsible for sales and marketing at Lisa Lee.
Rebecca Chopp has been named the 13th dean of the Yale Divinity School. The first female named to the post will assume leadership on July 1. She will also be the Titus Street Professor of Theology and Culture. A scholar of Christian theology and an ordained Methodist minister, Chopp currently serves as provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Emory University in Atlanta. Chopp is currently president of the American Academy of Religion and a trustee of the Carnegie Foundation and the Aquinas Center. She is widely published in the areas of women's studies, Christian theology and the role of religion in American public life.
The Connecticut chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) has named Kim Plavcan as president-elect. An interior designer at Cama Inc. in New Haven, Plavcan will serve as chapter president from October 1 through September 30, 2002. She has previously served as treasurer and chapter administrator for Connecticut ASID, as well as president of the Connecticut Coalition for Interior Design.
People's Bank of Bridgeport has named Louis J. Paffumi vice president and manager of community lending. Paffumi joined People's in 1996 as a middle-market commercial lender in the bank's New Haven region. Before joining People's he was manager of the commercial loan department at the Bank of New Haven.
Kathleen Pane has been hired as a project engineer for Payne Environmental LLC and will work in Payne's New Haven corporate office. Pane earned a B.S. in environmental studies from Connecticut College. Her duties will include site investigation, air/water quality studies and environmental compliance assessments.
Also at Payne, senior associate Jeffrey Krason has been promoted to special projects director. Krason has ten years' experience in the environmental engineering field, with expertise in business development and project management. His new responsibilities will include managing several large New Haven County projects.
Ruth G. Price, vice president and community reinvestment officer for People's Bank, has been elected president of the board of the Mutual Housing Association of Southwestern Connecticut Inc. Price brings 25 years of experience in the field of affordable housing and community development. As president, she will lead the association in affordable-housing development in Stamford, Bridgeport and Trumbull. Price has worked for People's since 1996.
The New Haven mayoral campaign of Republican Joel Schiavone has named its leadership team. Campaign manager Ted LeVasseur joins general consultants Cheryl Klock and Kevin McNeill of McNeill-Klock Strategies. Klock, Levasseur and McNeill bring a total of more than 20 years political experience to the Schiavone camp, including work in 29 states and the District of Columbia.
Webster Financial Corp. of Waterbury has named William J. Healy as executive vice president and chief financial officer. Healy was previously executive vice president and chief financial officer for Summit Bancorp of Princeton, N.J. He joined Summit in 1973, and from 1994 to 1998 served as executive vice president and controller.
The Connecticut Technology Council (CTC) has announced the retirement of Laura Kent, one of its founders and its president throughout the seven-year history of the organization. She will leave her full-time responsibilities at the end of June, and will be available in a consultative capacity throughout the balance of the year. Kent launched the CTC in 1994 with 11 member companies; statewide membership now stands at nearly 400 with companies of all sizes and technologies.
Gov. John G. Rowland has named Win Oppel, president of Ad-America Corp. in Shelton, a member of the Connecticut Employment & Training Commission, the state's chief policy-making board for workforce development. Oppel served as aide to the mayor of Shelton from 1977-79 and administrative assistant to the mayor from 1980-85.
