MILFORD - The Original Basket Case, a gift-basket designer shop, and Elfie's, a bakery and catering business, are closing their doors. Elfie's has been located on River Street for eight years. Proprietress Elfie (who uses her first name only) is not forthcoming about her future, saying only the she is moving on to her next adventure. Pat McCarthy, owner of the Original Basket Case, also on River Street, is closing her business as a consequence of health reasons.
According to Joseph Agro, owner of the building housing both businesses, the two spaces are likely to be occupied shortly. Laurene Stapleton of Milford has purchased some of Elfie's equipment and is setting up her own bakery and coffee shop, aiming for an opening next month. The tenant for McCarthy's space has not been identified, but the space has reportedly been leased.
