WorkPlace Receives Training Grant

BRIDGEPORT - The WorkPlace Inc. has received a grant of $91,400 from the state's Office for Workforce Competitiveness for worker training in the Naugatuck Valley region. Eight plastics manufacturers will partner with WorkPlace, the Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce and the Alliance for Economic Growth, a public-private partnership to advance growth in the valley.
The program, known as the Valley-Plastics Alliance, will provide training for 200 workers in basic literacy skills, technical manufacturing competencies, computer and information technology skills, quality assurance competencies, leadership and effective communications skills. Participating companies, which have provided matching funds of $106,042, nclude B&D Molding Plastics, Electric Cable Compounds, Inline Plastics Corp., Lerman Container, Plastic Molding Technology, PTA Corp., Spectrum Plastics and Stelray Plastic Products.
The project was developed to meet the demand for more skilled workers in the plastics field. The plastics industry is experiencing tremendous growth in our region and we're excited about upgrading workers' skills and building a successful alliance, said Joseph M. Carbone, WorkPlace Inc. president and CEO.
The project manager is Michael K. Kelly, a partner of Source It, a corporate training and productivity consulting firm in Middletown. Kelly will coordinate training and interface with member companies and partners. The Greater Valley Chamber of Commerce will convene the alliances for the project.
