NEW HAVEN — In recent years local business leaders have lamented the outflow of young workers from Connecticut and talked about the need to provide more opportunities for the best and the brightest entering the workforce. So when several young members of the Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce expressed interest in starting a professional networking group for young professionals to Chamber president Anthony Resicigno recently, he was all ears.
So on January 14 at Keys to the City at Caffe Bottega in New Haven, the Young Professionals group of Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce held its inaugural get-together, with nearly 140 guests in attendance.
According to Rachele Ceccorulli, communications and events coordinator for the chamber, the Young Professionals Group is geared toward professionals between the ages of 21 and 40. Although “We don’t discriminate against anyone slightly older,” Ceccorulli says, “our purpose is to serve the unique needs of this [21-40] age bracket.”
The group’s mission is to provide networking, career advancement, leadership development, and community service opportunities to 21- to 40-year-olds within fun and diverse contexts. Local, young and energetic professionals looking to increase their social and professional networks are encouraged to join.
During its first few months of operation the Young Professionals Group will hold one event each month. The types of events will range from casual happy hour-type networking events to small luncheons with local CEOs.
