Connecticut Alliance for Business Opportunities wins "Chamber of the Year" Award from the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce
NEW HAVEN—With their annual "Chamber of the Year" Award, the National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) recognizes one outstanding lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender chamber or business organization that continually stands out for their exceptional efforts and leadership within their community. The 2011 winner: The Connecticut Alliance for Business Opportunities (CABO).

Jenn Tracz Grace (Executive Director) and Dena Castricone (Founder and Board President)
accepted the award on behalf of CABO at the NGLCC National Business & Leadership Conference in Las Vegas, Nevada on August 4th. The conference is the premiere conference for LGBT-owned and allied businesses to build relationships with corporate partners and to foster business opportunities with each other.

Tracz Grace said, "This award is an incredible honor for CABO, and a tribute to the businesses across Connecticut who are united in publicly supporting LGBT people and leveraging the community buying power of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people."

Based in New Haven and founded in 2007,
CABO has achieved impressive growth in the past year, rapidly growing membership across the state in Hartford, Fairfield, and New Haven, with imminent plans to hold regular networking meetings in New London. With 150+ members and counting, they've developed significant corporate relationships with business members of all sizes to give an economic edge to those who support equality and justice for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people in the state.

CABO's major corporate members include
Aetna, Foxwoods, Murtha Cullina, Nutmeg State Federal Credit Union, Comcast Business Class, Bearingstar Insurance, Clear Channel Radio, The Rainbow Times, GHP Print, United Illuminating, The Hartford, United Technologies, and the Connecticut Sun WNBA team. Many are key corporate partners of CABO, as well.

Sam McClure, Director of Affiliate Relations for the NGLCC, said, “Many of us on staff at the NGLCC remember when CABO was an “idea” and now we are seeing what happens when an “idea” collides with an innovative, passionate and mission-driven group of business leaders.  The board of directors, staff and entire membership of CABO should be very proud of all that they have achieved in such a short time. This is an exceptional organization and we are proud to be their national partner.”

The National Gay and Lesbian Chamber of Commerce characterizes their Chamber of the Year "as the shining example of what an LGBT chamber or business organization should be. It is an established and stable chamber that has weathered the ups and downs, continued to see growth, remained relevant in the community, and is engaged locally and nationally in policy, supplier diversity, certification, and the LGBT business movement. The winner is seen as a role model to other chambers and is a success story that others wish to replicate."
