NORTH HAVEN-Gateway Community College is implementing a course to help professionals learn how to install solar-assisted hot water or space heating equipment. The addition of Solar Thermal Energy Systems: Installation and Maintenance to its curriculum makes Gateway the first institution of higher education to offer such a course, according to the college. The course is being conducted through Gateway's Center for a Sustainable Future. Classes are being held on the North Haven campus. Topics include site assessment, identification of a variety of solar systems and components, start-up, appropriate installation, troubleshooting techniques, system adaptations and workplace safety. Completion of the course will help with preparation for the licensing exam administered by the Connecticut Plumbers and Pipefitters Examination Board. For more information, contact course instructor Gail Burrington at 203-285-2448.
