NORTH HAVEN-Gateway Community College is implementing a course to help professionals learn how to install solar-assisted hot water or space heating equipment.
The addition of Solar Thermal Energy Systems: Installation and Maintenance to its curriculum makes Gateway the first institution of higher education to offer such a course, according to the college. The course is being conducted through Gateway's Center for a Sustainable Future. Classes are being held on the North Haven campus. Topics include site assessment, identification of a variety of solar systems and components, start-up, appropriate installation, troubleshooting techniques, system adaptations and workplace safety. Completion of the course will help with preparation for the licensing exam administered by the Connecticut Plumbers and Pipefitters Examination Board.
