Chamber Slates Small-Biz ‘Academy’

NEW visit us — The Greater New Haven Chamber of Commerce (GNHCC) has partnered with Citibank to present the sixth annual Small Business Academy (SBA). Classes there September 13 with a panel of local small-business owners.

This five session business training program is designed to strengthen and grow small companies. Classes are taught by business leaders, selected for their ability to provide practical business solutions. Sessions include: “Getting the Money,” acquiring capital for starting a business; “Making a Business Plan,” a workshop on putting the document together; “Professional Skills for Small Business,” including leadership and presentation skills; “Marketing,” the essential elements of marketing and promotion; and “Legal Matters,: the legal aspects in protecting your business.

“I see a lot of businesses failing because they start up without the knowledge they need,” says chamber President Anthony Rescigno. “The Small Business Academy is a cost-effective way for people to gain the tools needed for starting or growing their own business.”

Each session runs from 6 to 8:30 p.m. consecutive Thursdays through October 11 at the chamber, whose offices are on the tenth floor of 900 Chapel Street. The program is presented by Citibank and sponsored by Connecticut Innovations  Inc. and ConnectiCare.
