Criminal justice is a fast-growing area of academic inquiry, with fewer than 50 institutions nationwide offering doctoral-level programs in criminology or criminal justice. The Henry C. Lee College is already one of the largest providers of graduate education among specialized colleges of criminal justice in the U.S., and UNH officials expect it to draw both full-time traditional graduate students and part-time professionals into the Ph.D. program.
The Criminal Justice doctoral program will be administered by Richard Ward, dean of the Lee school. Ward says the program is designed to produce graduates with a thorough understanding of crime and the administration of justice. "The UNH criminal justice Ph.D. will provide the nation and state of Connecticut with doctoral-level education that will benefit other institutions of higher learning and the numerous agencies concerned with criminal justice, homeland security and public-safety operations," Ward added.
