STAMFORD-AARP has help for unemployed older workers seeking employment or a career change. Free job training, work-search information and webinars are among assistance programs offered by AARP, which estimates that one in three workers is over the age of 50. "About 2 million people aged 55 and over were unemployed in February 2010, bringing the unemployment rate for this age group to 7.2 percent, higher than it has been since the late 1940s," said State Director Brenda Kelley in a recent release.
AARP has teamed up with the Urban League of Southern Connecticut to open its first certified WorkSearch Center at 46 Atlantic St., Stamford. The center offers job-search, training and other employment services to job-seekers age 40 and over by assessing an individual's interests, work skills and personal characteristics. Similar centers are being planned for additional locations throughout the state. Other AARP offerings include online resources and job tips, and a "Webinar Series for Job Seekers." The next webinar, titled "Refresh Your Resume for Today's Job Market," will take place June 17, 2 to 3 p.m.
