NEW HAVEN - In light of the still-struggling economy, Yale University has stepped up its efforts to limit non-salary staff expenditures, calling for five-percent cuts for the 2010-11 academic year to instead be realized in 2009-2010. "We are counting on faculty, department managers and others who control resources to cut nonessential expenditures on travel, entertainment, equipment and supplies to the extent needed to achieve this target," said Yale President Richard Levin in an
e-mail to Yale affiliates. He added that although faculty recruitment will continue, it will progress "at a significantly reduced pace" for arts and sciences faculty. He said requests for searches to fill vacancies "will be scrutinized carefully" and that some searches "will be deferred for a year or two
