HARTFORD: Nominations are being sought for the 2017 Connecticut Governor’s Tourism Awards. According to the Department of Economic and Community Development, The Connecticut Governor’s Tourism Awards recognizes those who “go above and beyond to enhance both the appeal of our state as well as the health of our economy.”  There are five categories for recognition and nominations are being accepted through Monday, April 7, 2017. Connecticut Governor's Conference on Tourism, will be help Thursday, May 4th at the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford.

Categories for Award and Your Nominations

2017 Tourism Volunteer of the Year

This award recognizes either an individual or a group of individuals who “exemplify the positive impact volunteers can have on the success of Connecticut’s travel and tourism initiatives.”

Who’s eligible for nomination:

Any individual or group of individuals not paid for the services they provide any type of organization in the travel/tourism industry, including (but not limited to) historic sites, parks and recreational areas, arts and cultural organizations and other tourist destinations.

2017 Tourism Rising Star Award

This award recognizes an individual who has joined the tourism industry within the last five years and [served at least two of those years in Connecticut]. Any employee of any travel/tourism-related organization headquartered in Connecticut is eligible.

2017 Tourism Partners of the Year Award

This award recognizes two or more organizations that have come together to collaboratively market their offerings. Any group of two or more separate organizations that have collaborated on one or more initiatives to drive visitors/revenues to Connecticut are eligible

2017 Tourism Leader of the Year

This award recognizes a “committed, talented leader who has accomplished the following over the past year: made his/her organization as well as the state a more attractive place to visit inspired others with his/her vision for enhancing our state’s appeal to visitors, both within as well as outside our state demonstrated keen abilities to build tourism/travel revenues championed the value of travel and tourism to the Connecticut economy.


2017 Tourism Legacy Leader

This award recognizes an individual who has provided “exemplary leadership” for the state’s travel and tourism industry over the past 25 years. Any individual who has 25 years or more of distinguished service to the tourism industry, at least 15 of which have been in Connecticut.
