Spreading Wings in South America

STRATFORD — Sikorsky Aerospace is breaking new territory in South America with the opening of a Black Hawk helicopter training facility in Colombia.

The Flight Simulator Training Center at the Colombian Air Force Base in Melgar is the first of its kind in South America, and provides pilot and flight crew training for the country’s armed services as well as for Sikorsky military customers in the region. The center offers the region’s only Black Hawk simulator.

Also in South America, Sikorsky has begun storing spare parts for Brazil’s model S-76 and S-92 helicopters in a Rio de Janeiro facility, which is the first storage location for the company in Brazil, in an effort to reduce the lag time from customs inspections and clearance issues that come with shipping products from the U.S.
