WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Sen. Christopher J. Dodd announced in early January that several Connecticut technology companies would receive more than $120.9 million in advanced energy manufacturing tax credits from the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act of 2009 for clean energy projects. The lion's share - $115,700,000 - will go to the United Technologies Corp. (market capitalization: $66 billion). $110,400,000 of that sum will go to reequip UTC facilities for the production of a fuel-efficient jet engine.

The grant may come just in time, as state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal less than two years ago threatened to sue the company over pollution caused by its engines.

In addition, UTC Power Corp. will receive $5,300,100 to open a new manufacturing facility to produce a low-sound and -emissions fuel-cell power plant.

The Roller Bearing Company of America in Oxford will receive $4,157,400 for the production of turbine blade and yaw bearings, which will be used in wind turbines.

STR Inc. of Somers will receive $829,020 for the manufacture of encapsulates and film that hold a solar module together. And Acuity Brands of Wallingford will receive $225,000 to re-equip its facility with equipment used in making lighting sensors.
