According to the company, UConn will focus on advanced sensors, diagnostics and controls for use in commercial and military aircraft propulsion systems.
"UConn has solid technical capabilities that complement our growing research needs,"said Paul Adams, senior vice president at Pratt & Whitney Engineering, in a statement. "We have thousands of engineers in Connecticut, including many UConn graduates. This partnership allows us to bring their expertise to the next generation of engineers in a way that complements traditional studies.
UConn Provost Peter Nicholls said collaborating with the company would help the university attract world-class experts to its faculty, draw students to the school and train future engineers.
Mun Choi, dean of the UConn School of Engineering, agreed. "We think this is going to be the beginning of an important relationship with Pratt & Whitney,"Choi said. "In the end, we want to be a technical resource for key industries in this state."
