U.S. Rep. Christopher S. Murphy (D-5) announced that his bill, the “American Jobs Matter Act,” has been approved by the Government Reform Committee and the House Oversight Committee and could be in line for a vote on the House floor this fall.
The bill calls for giving preference to U.S. manufacturers when bidding on federal contracts. “My bill would allow federal agencies to give an advantage to bids that create jobs here in the United States,” Murphy said. The bill grew out of the frustration of manufacturers who had been losing federal contracts, and subsequently annual revenue and job offerings, to foreign competitors. Murphy hopes the bill can gain enough momentum to bring more federally contracted jobs back to the U.S.
