The Connecticut Quality Improvement Award (CQIA) Partnership is the country’s first state-level quality award using the Malcolm Baldrige National " click here and Innovation Award Criteria for Performance Excellence. Fifty-eight prizes were given to companies across industries such as manufacturing, service, education " health care.
CQIA examiners studied and ranked this year's 63 CQIA Innovation Prize applications from organizations with a facility in Connecticut. Limited to one typewritten page, applicants responded to four Baldrige related requirements:
• Describe an organizational problem that was solved or an opportunity that was leveraged by the innovation.
• Present a clear and concise description of a new product, service or process innovation introduced in Connecticut during the last five years.
• Explain why you consider it innovative in the marketplace or your industry.
• Using numbers, show how this innovation benefited your organization.
Recipients were given awards in Platinum, Gold and Silver. Local honorees are as follows.
Platinum: Covidien, North Haven; PerkinElmer, Shelton.
Gold: Energizer Personal Care/Schick-Wilkinson Sword, Milford; GoECart 360, Bridgeport; Yale New Haven Health System (Pain Management in Joint Replacement Surgery); MedPricer, Guilford; Quinnipiac University, Hamden; the WorkPlace, Bridgeport.
Silver: Defibtech, Guilford; Dr. Energy Saver, Seymour; Perimeter Security, Milford; William Ravies, Shelton; Yale Medical Group; Yale University.
