Date Roland W. Betts, chairman and chief executive officer of Chelsea Piers, LP., has been named senior fellow of the Yale Corp. He was elected an alumni fellow of the corporation in 1999. Betts developed and operates the Chelsea Piers Sports and Entertainment Complex in New York City. He is founder and president of Silver Screen Management, Inc., which has financed and produced more than 75 films with the Walt Disney Co. Betts is also director of the Lower Manhattan Development Corp. In this capacity, Betts has primary responsibility for the rebuilding of the World Trade Center site. Betts taught public school in Harlem and trained teachers as part of the Teachers Corp., a not-for-profit organization, and wrote Acting Out: Coping with Big City Schools, a book based on his work as a teacher and assistant principal. From 1989-98, Betts was the lead owner of major league baseball's Texas Rangers. He is graduate of Yale University and Columbia Law School.
