NEW HAVEN — Connecticut has been awarded $40 million in federal stimulus funds to advance the creation of a high-speed commuter rail line from New Haven to Springfield, Mass. The grant is a part of the federal government’s $8 million made available for high-speed rail projects under the American Recovery & Reinvestment Act (ARRA). The money will be used to double-track a ten-mile section of the right-of-way between New Britain and Newington.
Said Gov. M. Jodi Rell, “A high-speed commuter rail link between New Haven, Hartford and Springfield would relieve some of the pressure on Interstate 91, connect rail passengers with Bradley International Airport and bring new economic development to the heart of our state.”
