
According to the quarterly MoneyTree Report compiled by PricewaterhouseCoopers and the National Venture Capital Association based on data from Thomas Reuters, in 2009 venture capitalists invested a total of $158.2 million in 40 Connecticut deals. This included $18.8 million invested in 12 deals during the last quarter of the calendar year.
Nationally, $17.7 billion was invested in 2,795 deals in 2009. Investment has declined by double-digit amounts in the following industries: clean technology, life science and software. Biotech also saw a 19-percent decline in terms of both dollars and deals compared to 2008, but was still the largest investment sector nationally in dollar terms, with $3.5 billion going into 406 deals.
