water_leafBRIDGEPORT - Landscapers and other design and maintenance professionals are invited to participate in a developmental workshop titled "Learn To Be a 'GreenScaper.'" The focus will be on utilizing rain gardens as eco-friendly receptacles for storm water runoff from urban surfaces such as roads and rooftops. Concentrating on water-friendly landscape design and construction, the two-day workshop will cover essentials such as fundamentals of low-impact development, how to site and size a rain garden, plant selection and care, materials needed and short- and long-term maintenance. The course will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 11 at the Beardsley Zoo for classroom instruction, and 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 18 for a field demonstration.
