T-Mobile is expanding it's HSPA+ (Hgh Speed Packet Access) network build-out to more cities in the Northeastern U.S. including New York, Albany, Buffalo, Rochester, and Syracuse are now covered. In Connecticut, Hartford, New Haven, Milford, and Stamford already have HSPA+, as does Providence, Rhode Island. HSPA+ potentially gives faster data speeds to users with 3G-capable phones.
Boston and Washington, D.C. will see the faster service before the summer and the T-Mobile says that it will reach over 185 million users with the faster speed by the end of the year.
Sprit has been using the term 4G in its advertising for its higher speed network, but it utilizes a different technology, WiMAX. AT&T and Verizon have claimed that their networks already match some of the T-Mobile claims but they do will have a faster service by 2011.
